1944 - The Rest of the Story

Bernt Ronning, a local civilian, was originally from Norway. He first settled in San Josef Bay and later settled in a house on a trail between the logging town of Holberg and Cape Scott, which was to the north. He lived alone and tended some trap lines, one of which ran along the wild and uninhabited coastline of Cape Palmerston, between Raft Cove and San Josef Bay. He was very soft-spoken and extremely helpful to the members of #9 CMU - sharing his knowledge of the forst and all of its mysteries.

This photo was taken in September 1944 as he stood outside the #9 CMU line maintenance shack located at the abandoned Cape Scott village site. His house is shown on the Mike Higgin's hand drawn scetch maps of the Holberg - Cape Scott region on this web site.
