APPENDIX "A" TO DAILY DIARY
24 RADIO UNIT - TIGNISH, PEI
November 1, 1944
SECRET
Information was received this date in the form of a Secret Organization Order #215; stating that this Station is now a separate Unit of the RCAF coming directly under the AOC-in-C, EAC. This is indeed a step in the right direction and it is sincerely hoped that in the near future when administratively trained aircrew become available that some may be posted to this and other Units of this type in order to lighten the excessive load of correspondence and returns which must be conducted regardless of the size of the Unit. Also to enable present officers to have the odd 48 or at least a little time off now and then. Present arrangements do not permit this as even if a Senior NCO is capable of handling the situation he has not the necessary signing authority.
Experience elsewhere has proven that this type of Unit operates much more effectively as a separate self-accounting unit. This could very easily be carried out by a slight increase in Unit establishment; i.e. an administrative officer, conversant with accounting, a clerk accountant ( also badly needed as relief to present clerk who is greatly over-worked) and a Corporal Equipment Assistant. This increase of Unit strength would result of course in a substantial decrease in personnel at senior formation; such as RCAF Debert, who would no longer have to account for us.
The present system whereby this type of Unit is responsible to EAC, RCAF Debert, No 1 GRS, No 8 CMU and No 1 TSU is most unwieldly and results, in an extremely excessive amount of correspondence at times.
