WESTERN AIR COMMAND
SECRET OPERATION ORDER NO. 59
(DISBANDMENT NO. 26 RADIO UNIT, LANGARA ISLAND)

INFORMATION

  1. AFHQ have issued instructions to disband No 26 Radio Unit, Langara Island. M/F Beacon presently operated by DOT with power supplied by RCAF Diesel Plant will remain in operation and will be operated entirely by DOT personnel.

    INTENTION

  2. It is intended to disband No 26 Radio Unit, Langara Island.

    EXECUTION

    Effective Date

  3. No 26 Radio Unit is to cease operations effective 0900 hours, 6 Aug/45 and is to disband 10 Aug/45.

    Personnel

  4. OC, 9 CMU Detachment, is to detail number of personnel from Radio Unit required to complete disbandment of unit. Remainder of personnel with the exception of personnel required to operate the Diesel Plant are to be posted in accordance with instructions to be issued by SPSO, WAC HQ. OC and Inventory Holders are to remain at parent unit until properly cleared. CO of parent unit is to advise all reporting dates to WAC HQ and No. 3 Repair Depot and is to arrange transportation with CRTO, WAC HQ, direct.

  5. CO, parent unit is to advise when final disbandment has been completed in order that posting action may take place on remaining personnel.

    Equipment

  6. All signal and radar equipment, gantries, towers and aerials, together with all relative spares, are to be returned to the parent unit.

  7. All technical equipment not covered in para. 6 above is to be returned to parent unit.

  8. SOCE, WAC HQ, will issue detailed instructions regarding handing over of diesel installations to DOT.

  9. SOE, WAC HQ will issue detailed instruction regarding the disposal of major equipment, barrack and messing equipment.

    Armament

  10. All firearms are to be returned to the parent unit.

    Medical

  11. PWO, WAC HQ, will issue detailed instructions regarding the disposal of medical equipment and supplies

    Surplus and Reserve Rations

  12. All surplus and reserve rations are to be returned to the parent unit.

    ADMINISTRATION

    Command

  13. (a) OC, No 9 CMU Detachment is responsible for the removal of all equipment to the parent unit as expeditiously as possible.

    (b) Detailed instruction for operation of the Marine Craft will be issued by CMEO, WAC HQ.

    Establishment

  14. The establishment of No. 26 Radio Unit will be cancelled by AFHQ.

    Accounting

  15. SOAF, WAC HQ, will issue detailed instructions regarding the procedure to be followed for non-public funds.

    Documents

  16. (a)A Board of Officers is to be convened immediately for disposal of Station documents other than 'Most Secret, Secret and Confidential' in accordance with AFAO A31/14, para. 12 d/28 Feb/45. Names of President and Members are to be forwarded by parent unit to WAC HQ by message for promulgation in Command Orders.

    (b)The same Board of Officers is to submit separate proceedings for the disposal of all Station documents classified as 'Most Secret, Secret and Confidential' in accordance with regulations contained in AFAO A31/14, para. 14 d/28 Feb/45. Names of President and Members are to be forwarded to WAC HQ by message for promulgation in Command Orders.

    (c)Upon completion of the proceedings of these Boards of Officers, all documents are to be handed over to the CO, parent unit, for retention pending issuance of further instructions by WAC HQ.

  17. CSO will issue separate instructions concerning disposal of SROs.

    INTERCOMMUNICATIONS

  18. Existing W/T and PCS F/M Facilities are to be maintained during the disbandment of the Unit and are to be removed when no longer required.
