DAILY DIARY
41 RADIO DETACHMENT - ST. BRIDES, NEWFOUNDLAND
November 9, 1944 to November 14, 1944

9 Nov 44

Dull, very cold and windy. The American OC left this morning, the last of the American personnel to leave. The cook turned out his first batch of bread. Received good selection of films, GI plus feature picture "3 Little Sisters".

10 Nov 44

Dull, cold and calm. New refrigerator installation working well. Operates from 18 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit. Beacon standy generator tested OK however it makes considerable noise and vibrates badly.

11 Nov 44

Dull for most of the day. Occasionally the sun appeared - but didn't make it much warmer. Fairly strong breeze. Radar working well, fairly good ranges. Station routine is evolving slowly. Many incidentals always appear to ruffle matters. Group of men went to dance at branch.

12 Nov 44

Cloudy, cool, quite windy. Several men attended RC Church in village of St. Brides. Had technicolor show - "Lady in the Dark" - quite good.

13 Nov 44

Cloudy, extremely wet because of rain and high winds. Put into operation, fire alarm system using small 6V, buzzer type bells. Radar working well. Showed a few "GI" shorts for entertainment.

14 Nov 44

Cloudy, heavy rain and wind. Transport truck and 5 men left for St. John's to get rations from RCASC at Lester Field. Each rainy day practically floods the Operations Building because of inadequate protection from the entrance. Since construction materials are next to impossible to obtain the condition must remain. There should also be lockers for the men and storage racks for the rations. Weather stripping and tape for sealing cracks in the walls would certainly help the heating problem. A good picture was shown tonight - "Till We Meet Again"."
