After MT Drivers Mac McDowall or Doug Barkhouse had risen at 4:00 am in order to make a 6:00 am start on ration pick-up day, they were not prepared to shovel too much snow in order to get back late that evening.
All off-duty men, all trades, turned out to help. Our rations were important, but so was the mail from home. Also on that truck would be the latest movie, and probably returning friends, particularly those who might have made purchases in town on their behalf. While we could purchase canned beans, plums, etc. from Seldon Myers in the village, there were treats he could not always stock, such as cookies etc.
These men are at Port Felix, some ten to twelve miles east of the station. This particular long slow slope through the village was a snow problem every winter. We did have a snow plow, a 50 cwt. truck with a "V" plow and loaded with coal or gravel for weight, but it needed better traction. These men are digging down to get that traction.
