The Detachment was located about 1/4 of a mile inland from the main road which ran along the coast. It was practically invisible from the main road, as the country in the area was quite hilly and thickly wooded. The land sloped quite steeply towards the sea. Looking out towards the sea, the point forming the Bay of Gaspe terminated to the left. In front and to the right was the open sea with Bonaventure Island a little farther along the coast to the right.
