Langara Island is situated at the northwestern tip of the Queen Charlotte Islands. It was named after the Spanish explorer Admiral Don Juan Francisco Langara and it is also called North Island. Even though it is, presently, only sparsely inhabited it has a long standing tie to the history of the local culture. Remnants of trade with visiting Russian seafarers, abandoned native villages, several sport fishing operations and a prominent lighthouse can be observed. Numerous birds, wildlife and sea species abound on and in the vicinity of this remote island.
