The Protestant Ladies Guild held a Bazaar at the DND School. Good ceiling with patches of blue sky showing. Visibility close to 3 miles. Aerodrome conditions green. Everybody flying.

Charge case held this morning. The War Plan Committee held a meeting. A Sabre crashed just off the base by the Grostenquin Road about 1800 hours. The pilot, F/L MHP Fitt was killed. Clear and cold. Heavy frost during the night. Normal flying.

Funeral today of F/O Fitt. Father from England attended as well as AOC and representatives from other Wings. COs Conference in HQ Conference at 1530 hours following the AO’sC conference. Beautiful day, clear and cold. There was no flying until after F/O Fitt’s funeral.

In a giant Turkey Bingo held this date, 50 turkeys and assorted prizes were won by a capacity crowd. The CO and COpsO went to Sardinia by T-33. Low cloud, some rain, gusty wind conditions. Normal flying.

The 3 Wing Flyers came down to 2 Wing and defeated very badly the 2 Wing Eagles by a score of 17 to 3. Accounts and 421 Squadron held their Christmas parties. The CO and COpsO arrived back from Sardinia. Low cloud, wet runway, gusty wind conditions. The first two F-86s landing had to flame out to stop. The third F-86 landed and went off the side of the runway. Other aircraft were diverted to 3 Wing. 3 Wing had too many diversions so 2 Wing decided to handle our own F-86s. The CF-100s went to 3 Wing and two of which who were low on fuel went to Ramstein.

In the afternoon, a heavy snow shower caused 10 jet aircraft to divert to 4 Wing.

Men’s Station basketball team played an exhibition game vs Colin Caserne and 2 Wing was defeated by a score of 88 to 54. A dinner and dance was held in the Officers’ Mess in honour of Captain De Malglaive and Madame De Malglaive our FLO. The Captain is on retirement from the FAF. He has been FLO since 2 Wing opened. The CO presented Madame De Malglaive with a piece of crystal. Weather good with a high crosswind. All squadrons flying. A533 with F/L Hanson as pilot went off runway.

Apparently lost control and struck a tree. On the 8th the mens basketball team won and the girls lost in a league game played at 2 Wing vs 1 Wing.

The Inter-Wing volleyball tournament was held at 1 Air Div with both men and women’s teams representing all Wings, Langar and Air Div. The 2 Wing mens team reached the semi-finals and the 2 Wing girls came home victorious. The Air Div boys kept the trophy there. Our Sr NCOs played a hockey game vs the Sr NCOs of Air Div and 2 Wing won by a score of 5 - 2. Weather good. 421 Squadron and 430 Squadron flying. Exercise arranged between 421 Squadron and BAF.

50 school children from Forbach came on the base. Dr. Rouvier gave a talk on the Canadian educational system. Great day for the Indians of 421 Squadron. A parade was held at 421 Dispersal Area. Mr. Love presented regalia and head-dress to S/L Allatt the OC. From then on the fun began, the guest was captured and tied to a stake, suitably painted, released and smoked peace pipe with the OC. Mr. Love made an honorary member of the Squadron. this was a great day for the photographers. French and CBC TV attended and newspapers reports from Metz. A party was held in the Rec Centre in the evening and a movie on the Calgary Stampede was shown. A really good show on 421s part - and the onlookers enjoyed it too. Scattered cloud conditions today.
