The COpsO attended a conference at 1 Air Division, held for the purpose of studying the problems related to the recovery of jet aircraft within 1 Air Division, and to make recommendations on a restricted flying program in marginal WX, diversion of aircraft, and night flying programs.

School closed for Christmas vacation.
The Childrens' Christmas Party was held in the Recreation Centre. The programme consisted of a one hour concert presented by a professional stage troupe from Germany, during which treats and refreshments were distributed. Santa Claus appeared at 1500 hrs. The party was sponsored by the Station Fund Committee and organized by the recreation staff with the assistance of the school principal and teachers. At 2030 hrs, "Christmas Caravan", an All American Soldier Musical Review was staged at the Station Theatre.

Forty-one children from the Protestant Orphanage in Sedan were enchanted by the Sunday School Christmas Pageant in the Station Theatre. During the program, "White Gifts" for the orphans were placed at the foot of the manger. The children were taken to the Airmen's Mess for refreshments. A small gift from the station was given to each one, and turkeys for their Christmas dinner. There was also donations from the Protestant Chapel Guild and Sunday School.
The Roman Catholic Chapel Committee donated to the Old People's Home and to the Orphanage in Longuyon. The St. Vincents de Paul Society, in Montmedy was given parcels of food and clothing to distribute to needy families.

Leading journalists of the French Press visited 1 (F) Wing, accompanied by interpreters, and French and American conducting officers, to make a total of twenty-five in the party. The Information Services of the US Army and Air Force planned this tour of American, French, and Canadian military installations in France. The tour was linked with the overall plan for the 10th anniversary of NATO. It provided an opportunity for the French journalists to observe NATO forces within their country. Another major object of the tour was to stress the need for continuous harmonious relations. The tour of 1 (F) Wing consisted of a short briefing, lunch, and the witnessing of Sabre and CF100 aircraft scrambles and a Sabre turnaround, with tea in the Senior NCOs Mess, prior to departure.

His Excellency, the Most Reverend ML Roy, Military Bishop (RC) accompanied by Monsignor MacLean, Chaplain General (RC) paid a brief visit to 1 (F) Wing. The Archbishop offered Mass in the Station Chapel at 1045 hrs, and addressed and met the RC personnel and their families attending. The visiting party was entertained at a luncheon in the Officers' Mess attended by RC officers and their wives.

Airmen's Promotions. Seven sergeants were promoted to flight sergeant, thirteen corporals to sergeant, fifty-five leading aircraftmen to corporal, and seven airwomen to corporal.

The Air Division Intersection Bowling Tournament was held here. Team champions were 1 Air Division Support Unit, with 1 (F) Wing team placing third.

Allied Forces Central Europe ceremonies in honour of the 10th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization took place at Mainz, Germany. 119 aircraft took part in the master flyover, 16 of these from 1 Air Division including 1 (F) Wing. A contingent of 36 Canadian airmen, also composed in part of personnel of this Wing, marched and carried the Canadian colours as part of the 5000 man parade. Leading the Allied Air Forces contingent in the master parade, was the 1 (F) Wing Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major Sgt C Russell and Drum Major Sgt L Cameron. In conjunction with the German Training Command Headquarters Army Band, the Pipe Band played at a concert, that afternoon at Goethe Monument Park. Frankfurt.

A total of 32 rinks took part in the Air Division Bonspiel held at 4 (F) Wing. The Redding Rink from 1 (F) Wing took top place, making 1 (F) Wing the winner for the second consecutive year. Runner-up to the champion was the Henley Rink also from this unit. In the consolation event, 3 (F) Wing was the first with the Furnell Rink and 1 (F) Wing was the runner-up with the Koch rink. All of these rinks took individual prizes and, in addition, the 1 (F) Wing Redding Rink retained the Bank of Montreal Trophy.

S/L Helen Sutherland Senior Social Welfare Officer gave an interesting and informative lecture to women personnel. She had arrived from AFHQ to lecture to women corporals taking the SSTS Course at 3 (F) Wing and from there had proceeded to the various Wings.
W/C Ericksen of 1 Air Division and Major Campbell of AirCent were here to study the starter requirements of the CF100 and related cross servicing details.

Bishop Clabaut OMI confirmed thirty-two children in the RC Chapel. On the following day, five adults were confirmed by Bishop Petit, Bishop of Verdun in his private chapel.

S/L SI Evans, WP Officer in charge of women personnel in 1 Air Div paid a staff visit to 1 (F) Wing. She inspected the facilities provided for the airwomen, and at an informal meeting and social gathering they had the opportunity to meet and talk to her. At this meeting, S/L Evans presented sweaters which the women officers and airwomen had won for sports activities.

S/L AC Munn SOGT at 1 Air Div discussed ground training and civil defence matters with WGTO.

His Excellency Jules Leger, Canadian Ambassador to NATO, and Mrs. Leger visited 1 (F) Wing on a tour of 1 Air Div units. The tour of the Wing included an operations briefing, a visit to the gun butts to observe F86 firing-in and CF100 gun pack firing, a turn around of four Sabre aircraft and a wheel change at 441 Sqn, A CF100 turn around under spray, a visit to Wing Maintenance and Workshops, Armament Workshops, and a tour of recreation facilities. Following the tour a buffet luncheon was served in the Stag Room of the Officers' Mess.

Rt Rev IA Norris, Bishop of Brandon and Bishop Ordinary to the Armed Forces (ACC) administered the Sacrament of Holy confirmation in the Protestant Chapel at 1930 hrs. After the service, coffee and refreshments were served in the Airmen's Mess. While here, the bishop, his wife, and members of their party visited the St Hilaire Cemetery at Marville and the battlefields of Verdun.

46720 F/L JM McCrae assumed the duties of SFCO vice F/L RD MacKelvie. 40855 F/L M Hayden became Deputy SFCO, replaceing F/L McCrae.
