Marville France

Rhenald "Ray" Belanger

This item is a poster for the restaurant that was located just outside the main gate of the station at Marville. "Chez Aline" was also known as the "Arab Shack". I had brought my bass guitar and amplifier to Marville and was able to keep myself busy playing music with other RCAF servicemen at Marville.

You will notice that the poster is inscribed with the "Hoot 4, 2 Jul - 21h". The year would be 1965. This was an impromtu trio composed of myself on the bass guitar, a medic from the base hospital who could play guitar and sing (I forgot his name) and someone else.

We played that night and had a lot of fun. Actually, there were hootenanny nights at the airmen's club every Tuesday night and everyone who came on the stage got a free drink. Because I was the only one who could play the bass guitar, I usually stayed for the whole night. Those were happy days as the song says. Larry Romard sang a Cliff Richards song, "Bachelor Boy" which was very popular at the time.

Anyway, this is my contribution to your web site. To some people, this may mean nothing - but to others, well the poster may bring back many memories. This poster was hung in the restaurant and I was able to take it as a souvenir after the function on 2nd July, 1965.
