Military Air Traffic Control ended in 1998 at Goose Bay. However, from that time until 2004, the Air Force maintained 6 ATC positions in WOps (1 officer & 5 NCM's). Two positions were directly responsible for quality assurance of ATC, Met, & Transient Servicing - essentially monitoring Serco's performance in these areas under the terms of the contract. Four positions were employed in the Wing Ops Centre, working at the ops desk monitoring the overall daily flying program. Last year (2004), the base downsized the military positions again from approximately 92 to 40 (or thereabouts). Most of the working positions in Wing Operations were outsourced to Serco (including the ops desk) and the Quality Assurance functions were deleted altogether. Thus, there are no longer any military ATC positions at Goose Bay.
